You know what got me into CDs? Growing up, my dad had a binder full of them. You can’t have moments like that with music libraries. We learned a lot about each other from the music we had and we respected each other’s love for hip hop. The other day I had a bonding moment with my roommate when we brought out our respective CD collections.
Thankfully, I’m not there with Isaiah Rashad. That’s what happens when you want to be difficult.
TLOP went Pirate Gold-being illegally downloaded over 500,000 times-in a day. Add that to the fact that there was another album delay because Chance wanted “Waves” on there… Kanye, you left me no choice. Only to see Jay-Z talk about royalties and “high fidelity streaming” What a disappointment. I saw all of those artists in that meeting thinking we were about to get We are the World 2014. I don’t care for “exclusive content.” I'm still salty at the TIDAL announcement advertisements. What kind of crap is that? How are you going to make me be a member when I’m only here for one thing?! For whatever reason TIDAL had TLOP held hostage and fans were forced to cough up a membership fee for one album. Do you have any idea how dedicated of a fan you have to be to pre-order an album and plan to camp out now a days?! That was me until Kanye went on Twitter and said that not only will TLOP never be released physically, but none of his future albums will either. It wasn’t anything special or Kanye related. I had on outfit planned just in case I had to camp out. I even called Target to see what was up with pre-orders. I went on Kanye’s website every day just looking for a pre-order link. No physicals for TLOP? I was waiting for that one too! I was soooo patient with that album. Speaking of TIDAL, I got a bone to pick with them and Kanye.
How am I supposed to get something like that through TIDAL?! Is there a webpage for all of the thank you’s and production credits? Kanye West’s Graduation came with a poster. Cole’s Born Sinner and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Not only that, but think about the albums with lyrics in the disk booklet. Do you know how many alternate covers came with Tyler, the Creator’s Cherry Bomb? More than a couple. Think about the people who buy the same album multiple times for the sake of different cover art. Did you peep the way the artists featured on the album had their yearbook pictures put on? That was special! And it’s not just me who feels this way. Just look at The College Dropout and how the yearbook theme was prevalent throughout the album booklet. There’s a level of thought and personality that comes with an album’s packaging that you cannot replicate through streaming. Me buying CDs is as much about me wanting to support the artist as it is about the personal joy I get from owning them. To be honest, my reasoning for not liking streaming services over physical copies is selfish. I get that it makes it easier to have a music library online as opposed to walking around with a handful of CDs. Yeah, I know it’s way more convenient I’m not denying that. I’m not rocking with this streaming stuff. It’s been a long time coming, but at least I’m comforted in knowing that the album is here as opposed to still being in development for two years. It’s been there ever since the album came out and every so often I just look at the window tile and contemplate whether to go through with it or not. In my phone right now, I still have a window open on my browser that contains the download link for the album.

I’ve been torturing myself with the three singles whilst flirting with the thought of downloading a zip file. It’s been over a month since Isaiah Rashad’s debut album The Sun’s Tirade came out and I still haven’t listened to it.
